Dry Rot

Dry Rot is a common problem occuring in structures built with timber & masonry

Dry rot is a fungus, it develops a fruit body at the heart of its damp surroundings. The fruit body is normally found on timber making contact with masonry, where the damp conditions and ventilation prevail.

The body can be tough and fleshy to feel, and develops a round shape. The centre is a yellow ochre at first and this matures to a deep rust colour when it is allowed to grow. The deepening in colour is a result of brown spores it produces which gather in a dust below the body.
