Modern Properties 1960 to 1980

This information sheet gives guidance on the typical problems that surveyors find when looking at modern properties. We would add that there are always regional variations and that our surveyors are often coming across new issues, but the following has been given as a general guidance. We would of course recommend that you seek advice from an Independent Chartered Building Surveyor before you proceed with any purchase.

Identifying a Modern Property

There are many styles in this era of house building. We would like to emphasis that we feel this is the era when house building very much moved from building to a quality standard and innovative price techniques were used to build quickly – we discuss this on the 1950 to 1960 Architecture information sheet.

The majority of properties were traditionally built. We would however like to identify a few different forms of construction which came about during this era, i.e. cross wall construction and modern timber frame construction.
