Government Aims on Environmental and Sustainability - A Realistic Aim?

Recently one of the lead topics for surveyors and the government has been the issue of sustainability. Global warming is descending to another level and with the risk of flooding in the U.K it is vital we become more responsible regarding the energy we use and our carbon footprint.

Co2 emissions is the main culprit contributing to our problem. Every house gives off this energy form when producing heat, cooking etc. This is hurting the atmosphere around us. The government aims to produce 200,000 homes in the coming future. Everywhere you go in the U.K do you notice construction? The point is that we are undergoing regeneration in virtually every part of the U.K in response to higher demands from our population, but with this comes great responsibility to what is around us and we must build efficiently and wisely.

So what is sustainability and how can we build this?

A building is a high concentration of materials on a location it uses highly renewable resources. These are extracted and manufactured fromm a place distant in the biosphere transported to that location and fabricated into a built form into an infrastructure )e.g roads and drains). The susbsequent operations bear environmental consequences. The process of sustainavility is to accommodate the after life of these materials more efficiently.

Will it involve new ecological design?

This process will start from the design of our buildings and towns this will link to production which will use new materials and processes. The key is to cut costs on making buildings right the way to refridgerators used and toys. It may involve making use of solar power.
